Extra-Credit Policy: Extra-credit may be offered at various times throughout the year. Any extra-credit will be given as an optional assignment and will be available for all students in the class to complete for a grade. The weight of the extra credit will be determined with each individual opportunity.
Academic and Behavioral Expectations:
Teacher Availability: I will be available for extra help after school and during free periods by appointment.
Textbooks: This year we will be using the textbook series called Avancemos!. Every book is in new condition and is expected to remain in new condition. We have a classroom set. You will be assigned a book number. You are only permitted to use that assigned book unless otherwise directed by the teacher.
Deadline: Please read and discuss these expectations carefully. Please return the following page to the teacher signed by both the parent/guardian and the student.
I look forward to a very productive and exciting year with you. I understand that every student has different abilities and backgrounds when it comes to learning a foreign language. My mission is to provide a positive learning environment that will enable you to succeed to the best of your ability. If you follow the rules and do what is expected of you each day, I guarantee that we will have a wonderful school year.

Course Description:
Daily Supplies Needed for Class:
- 3 ring binder for your notebook – It is recommended that the student have at least a 2 inch binder
- Loose leaf paper
- Workbook Packets
- Black or blue pens
- Textbook
Absences:
- If the student is absent from class on the day of a test or quiz, the student will have one week from that date to schedule a time to make the test or quiz up. If the student does not schedule the makeup within one-week, the missing grade will be recorded as a zero. Depending on the nature of the assessment item, a variation may be given.
- If the student is absent from class, he or she is responsible for the material covered in class as well as any assignments that may have been given. The student may obtain the assignments upon return the following day. If an extended absence is necessary, the guidance office should be contacted so that arrangements can be made to have work sent home so that the student does not fall behind.
- If a student is suspended in-school or out-of-school, it is the student’s responsibility to get the assignments and any notes from class and is responsible for all the work the day he/she returns to class. This includes all quizzes and/or tests. No extensions are given for suspensions.

Academic and Behavioral Expectations:
- When the bell rings, you must be in your seat prepared with your notebook/materials open and dated. If you are not, you will be marked late.
- Your Spanish notebook is a 3 ring binder notebook with loose-leaf paper.
- You must bring all daily supplies to class every day. No exceptions. You are being graded daily on being prepared.
- If you forget the materials that you need for class, you will take an unprepared, and will not be permitted to return to your locker.
- You must use the lavatory between classes unless you are sick or have a real emergency.
- When the teacher or another student is talking, you will not talk.
- You will not write or draw on the desks or walls.
- The phone is for the teacher’s use only. If you need to use the phone, you must use the phone in your house office before or after class, not during class.
- You will participate in class as much as possible and you are aware that you are getting graded for your participation.
- Any negative behavior or disruption of education will result in minuses in participation as well as an official write up.
- You will not use vulgar or inappropriate language. Be respectful, kind and courteous to your classmates and teacher. Rudeness will not be tolerated in this classroom.
- Please do not wear any inappropriate clothing articles including offensive sayings, any head-gear, or any items that are against the Code of Conduct.
- There will usually be a minimum of one week’s notice for a unit test.
- Quizzes may be unannounced, or there may be one or two days notice.
- There will be homework every night based on what we do in class that day. Homework consists of the work that is assigned in class in addition to a mandatory 15 minutes of review every night (see homework section for details). The homework is to help you to know how you are doing with the material. Therefore, you must do it!
- If you are absent for a test, you must see the teacher about a make-up (see make-up policy).
- You will stay away from things in the room that do not belong to you.
- Do not deface anything in the classroom, whether it is the materials and/or classroom decorations or the classroom structure itself.
- Do not touch anything on the teacher’s desk or go behind the teacher’s desk.
- You will keep your hands and other body parts to yourself.
- You will show the same respect for a substitute teacher, and do the work that is assigned as it is always left for you by the regular teacher.
- You are aware that when your teacher returns, you will be responsible for the work, and will probably have a quiz.
- Do not line up at the door at the end of class. Stay in your seat until the bell rings and are dismissed by the teacher.
- Food and beverages are not permitted in the classroom. Only bottled water is appropriate for this classroom. Despite the fact that other beverages are sold in the school and on this floor, only water is permitted in this classroom.
- Gum chewing is not permitted..
